Background:The present study investigated the efficacy and safety of dapoxetine (Dapoxetine, Pfizer) in the treatment of premature ejaculation in men with erectile dysfunction. This study was carried out in a tertiary university hospital in the southern part of Philippines, in order to evaluate the efficacy of dapoxetine and its metabolites in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Methods:This was a single center, double blind, randomized, double-blinded, parallel group, parallel group, study, involving a group of men between 18 and 50 years old with moderate to severe erectile dysfunction and/or premature ejaculation who were willing to participate in a study on the efficacy of dapoxetine in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The study population included patients with a mean age of 49 years and mean duration of ED of 9.8 ± 6.5 years. Of the study population, 592 men (60.1%) received dapoxetine. The mean age of the study population was 48.5 ± 6.6 years and mean duration of ED was 9.7 ± 5.8 years. The study protocol was approved by the institutional review board of the hospital, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
Results:The mean number of the men was 2.4 ± 0.4 with a mean duration of ED of 2.2 ± 0.5 years. The mean number of the men with a mean duration of ED of 6.0 ± 2.6 years were 4.4 ± 1.6 with a mean duration of ED of 4.5 ± 1.7 years. The mean duration of the men with a mean duration of ED of 10.3 ± 5.3 years was 4.5 ± 1.4 years. The mean duration of ED of men with a mean duration of ED of 4.5 ± 1.7 years was 4.5 ± 1.6 years.
Conclusion:The study population of men with erectile dysfunction is a relatively high group of patients. The use of dapoxetine in this study was associated with a low incidence of adverse effects. The findings suggest that dapoxetine should be considered as an appropriate treatment option for this group of patients.
